Written by Legacy CDJR

MotorTrend has crowned Ram with the Truck of the Year award for the third year in a row! In MotorTrend’s 71-year history, this is the first time a single brand has been awarded three years running. Since breaking into its own brand in 2010, they’ve won the award six times; 2010, 2013, 2014, 2019, 2020, and now 2021. This year, they’ve done it with the ultra-capable 2021 Ram 1500 TRX. With a supercharged engine and off-road attributes, what’s not to love! Continue reading to learn more about MotorTrend’s “Of the Year” award and how Ram retook the cake this year!

How Does a Vehicle Win MotorTrends “Of the Year” Award?

By crowning the 1949 Cadillac Sedannette, MotorTrend was the first publication to name a “Car of the Year.” The competition to win the title is tough. Any upgraded or all-new year models are allowed to enter in the contest. The vehicles are put through a long set of performance tests designed to push the car to its limits. Once that phase of the test is complete, all competing vehicles are tested on three different courses at a vehicle testing center before the finalists, and subsequent winners are chosen. MotorTrend requires vehicles to represent outstanding value and stand out in their class. The winning car also has a positive impact on the automotive industry.

How Did the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Win Truck of the Year?

At first glance, the all-new Ram 1500 TRX is Ram’s high-performance truck. Taking a closer look, you’ll see just how much goes into making it that way. The high-performance piece of the TRX is accomplished by taking out the standard V6 or V8 engines and drops in the supercharged 6.2L V8 Hellcat engine! The TRX pounds sand and pavement with 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. For increased engine performance, the TRX houses a much larger airbox that is capable of filtering four times the dirt and debris compared to the Ford Raptor while eating up as much as 33 liters of air per minute. To help tame all the power, the TRX is also equipped with launch control. Let’s shift gears to the off-road capability of the TRX. A towering 11.8 inches of ground clearance, Bilstein shocks giving a generous 13 inches of front suspension travel,  14 inches of rear suspension travel, and six selectable drive modes all make the TRX the beast that it is. These drive modes include Sport, Snow, Mud/Sand, Rock, Baja, and Custom. This Custom mode allows you to select your preferred torque split, suspension firmness, steering feel, and more! With all that said, it seems like MotorTrends obvious choice!
