Ford has long been a go-to for those in the market for a pickup truck. But now that Jeep has gotten into the pickup game consumers have a new option to consider. The Jeep Gladiator is an off-road capable pickup with a 5-foot bed and can tow up to 7,400 pounds. On the other hand, the long-standing Ford Ranger with a terrific engine and an excellent payload capacity. In this article, we will put the Jeep Gladiator and the Ford Ranger against one another to see which one is truly superior.

 Jeep Gladiator Power & Handling

The Gladiator gives you a 3.6-liter V6 engine that makes 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. All Gladiators come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, but an eight-speed automatic transmission is available is you choose. Coming soon will be a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 making 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The tough, lightweight construction gives the Gladiator a best-in-class 7,650-pound payload capacity and an excellent 1,600-pound payload capacity.

 Ford Ranger Power & Handling

Only one engine is available for the Ford Ranger and its a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder connected to a ten-speed automatic transmission. The Ford Ranger comes standard with rear-wheel-drive, but four-wheel-drive is an available option if you choose. Fuel economy for the Ranger is decent thanks to its stop/start technology, but the 18-gallon tank leaves a lot to be desired. As for capability, the Ford Ranger has a suitable 7,500-pound towing capacity which is 150 pounds less than the Jeep Gladiator.

 Jeep Gladiator Features & Design

Four trim levels are available for the Jeep Gladiator with a ton of impressive features on each. The Gladiator Sport comes with in-bed cargo lighting, LED interior lighting, trailer-sway control, push-button start, cloth seats, lockable rear, and a 5-inch display. Higher-level trims come with power door and tailgate locks, universal garage door opener, remote keyless entry, illuminated sun visors, dual-zone climate control, and a larger 7-inch display screen. There are also a ton of options available including a Premium Sunrider top, Freedom top, remote start, LED lighting, and a sliding rear window. The highest level Rubicon gets you a ton of off-road options as well as premium cloth seats.

 Ford Ranger Features & Design

The Ford Ranger comes with three trims with features such as power windows, 16-inch wheels, and automatic headlights at the base level. The base entertainment is a simple four-speaker AM/FM unit with a 3.5-inch screen with inputs for USB and auxiliary cable. Higher trim levels get you standard safety features such as blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and trailer-tow monitoring. Other features include 17-inch wheels, an enhanced infotainment system, leather interior, power-adjustable front seats, push-button start, LED headlights, and navigation and adaptive cruise control.

Though the Ford Ranger comes with a bunch of decent features, we are going declare the Jeep Gladiator the winner.
